Beware of hydrofluoric acid in the lithium battery filling process

2024-01-05

As the core component of new energy vehicles, the rapid development of the new energy industry has driven the increasing demand for lithium batteries in the market. Lithium batteries have high energy and great power. Once thermal runaway occurs in a battery-intensive place, serious consequences will occur.

In recent years, accidents in lithium battery factories have occurred frequently, seriously endangering life and property safety. The safety of production and processing lines has become a key area of concern. Installing gas detectors can provide a good safety warning guarantee for lithium battery production workshops.

During the preparation of lithium-ion batteries, electrolyte needs to be injected into the battery. The electrolyte is mainly composed of three parts, mainly solvent, lithium salt, and additives.

The three main components of the electrolyte are arranged by mass: solvent accounts for about 80%~85%; lithium salt accounts for 10%~15%; additives account for about 5%. However, the cost proportion of the three raw materials is completely different. The core lithium salt accounts for the highest proportion, which can reach about 50%~60% at this stage; additives are between 10%~20%; and solvents are about 25%.

Among them, the elements commonly contained in lithium salts include LiPF6, LiBF4, LiFSI, etc. Lithium hexafluorophosphate (LiPF6) is a common chemical substance. When lithium hexafluorophosphate reacts with water, a series of chemical reactions will occur to generate various by-products, HF (hydrofluoric acid) is one of them.

Fixed combustible gas detectors such as BH-60 and GT-K90 are suitable for real-time and accurate detection of gas concentration and leakage in various environments. They have the advantages of sensitive response, fast response speed, high measurement accuracy, and high protection level. When the gas concentration exceeds the standard, it can alarm in time to prevent accidents such as fire and explosion.
